Lucy Muthoni
A Midwife with over 20 years experience in Nursing and Midwifery in Kenya. She has been running an out of hospital practice for the last 10 years. She attends to Mums and their families during pregnancy, birth and after birth. The services are wholistic, personalized and home based. They include Prenatal care, Childbirth Preparation, Labor and Birth, Breastfeeding support, Childcare, well baby and Mama. She has previously worked in various hospitals, has taught and mentored midwives and Doulas and is looking into maternal and child health research.
Prof. Boaz Otieno-Nyuny
Prof. Boaz Otieno-Nyunya, MD, currently serves as the Associate Director for Programmes at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in western Kenya. He is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and former Head of Department of Reproductive Health, a board-certified Consultant Ob/Gyn with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council and is a National Governing Council member of Kenya Medical Association and the Convenor of the Reproductive Health Committee, a focal person for KMA’s Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance project. He is a past President of Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society as well as past Vice President of the same organization. For over 25 years, Prof. Otieno-Nyunya has worked in the reproductive health space, specializing in sexual and reproductive health and rights, including family planning, advanced life support obstetrics, comprehensive abortion care, SGBV, STDs and HIV prevention, treatment and care with a special interest in HIV Prevention of mother-to-child transmission and HIV in Adolescents and Young People and health systems and services in resource-constrained settings. He has practiced Obs/Gyn and public health and extensively researched, taught and developed programs and written on SRHR and articulated the need for improved access to sexual and reproductive health services, rights and support in Kenya. Prof. Otieno-Nyunya holds MMed Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology and MBChB in Medicine and Surgery, both from the University of Nairobi. He has two post-doctoral fellowships in Contraceptive Technology Research from the Family Health International in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA and in International Medical Education and Research, from the Foundation of International Medical Education and Research, in Philadelphia, USA. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is a recipient of several awards in Reproductive Health and Public Health. He has recently developed interest on the impact of SARS-Cov-2 on maternal health services.
